Boiler Drain Valves

Boiler Drain Valves - MIP/FIP
Boiler drains are horizontal faucets with male (MIP) or female IPS threads (FIP) on the inlet side, and with male hose threads at the outlet spout angled approximately perpendicular to the bottom.

They were so named because they were designed to drain water from a boiler and also to release any sediment that may have accumulated.

These valves are also typically used in a laundry tub for hookups to a washing machine. Versions of these valves are used in recessed washing machine outlet boxes.

Some plumbing contractors still install a pair of boiler drains over a laundry tub, but more have now switched to dual quarter turn lever faucets using ball valve mechanisms.
